6th May 2011 - DSWC - Dorset Shockwave Clinic Leads way in Research Programme - First Results of DSWC In response to the National Institute of Clinical excellence (NICE) requesting further research into shockwave therapy the DSWC is one of several centres taking part in a national research programme. Each patient is asked to score their symptoms before and after treatment. This is to be recorded on a national database and analyzed to measure the effectiveness of treatment. This will improve treatment for patients in the future. Our first 80 patients has demonstrated that pain scores improved from an average of 8 to 2 (10 being the worst pain imaginable and 0 being no pain). Successfully treated pathologies included plantar fasciitis, tennis and golfers elbow, shoulder pain, trochanteric pain syndrome, tendinitis of the hip, patellar tendinitis and Achilles tendinitis. Each patient was asked: - If they managed to return to their previous activity levels
- if they would recommend the treatment
- if they thought it good value for money.
